Mark has extensive experience as a church musician: pianist, organist and choral director. He understands working with volunteer musicians, how to improve their musical abilities and make them successful. This experience and knowledge carries over to his work with individual piano and composition students, understanding their abilities and helping them achieve their musical goals.
Mark is an award winning composer having won the VocalEssence & American Composers Forum Carol Contest both in 2018 and in 2010. He is a first place winner of the John Ness Beck Foundation competition. He has nearly 100 choral and instrumental works in print. His music has been performed by schools, churches and universities throughout the United States and abroad. For a complete listing of works visit www.markshepperd.com. Additionally, Mark is a member of the American Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers (ASCAP).
A typical lesson with Mark includes a review of the previous week's assignments, work on technique, music theory, sight reading and a look at new music to study.
In his spare time, Mark enjoys running, working in his yard and spending time with his family, which includes 12 grandchildren!
