Chris spent 10 years cultivating a private lesson studio in Texas, working with middle school and high school students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area public schools. Over that time he honed his pedagogy, and was able to help many students earn positions in their school's top bands, earn seats in their All-Region and All-State bands, and excel at their Solo and Ensemble auditions. In addition, Chris has 9 years of college teaching experience, having taught at the University of North Texas, University of Northern Iowa, Winona State University, College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University, and the University of Minnesota.
A lesson with Chris may begin with fundamentals to make sure there is a solid foundation of tone, intonation, and relaxed hand positions; but the main goal of each lesson is to get to the music and discover the nuances of why we all gravitate towards music.
When the weather calls for it, Chris likes to take long walks and hikes with his girlfriend, Emily, and his dog, Duke.
