With many professional affiliations, Mary can offer students opportunities to participate in as many performance and educational events as they would like. Mary takes the time to determine what interests each student has and tailor their curriculum to their level of comfort. Above all, she aims to ensure that students are enjoying the process of learning to play and achieving goals that satisfy them.
Most lessons will begin with a scale/chord/arpeggio warmup as Mary believes that mastering the basics are essential to the enjoyment of playing any musical style. Students will have a current repertoire of 2-6 pieces from their method book, the Classical repertoire, and select pieces in the contemporary or pop styles. A music theory course will also be undertaken, if the student is willing. Of course, all of this might be changed up to explore something new, fun, or a personal interest of the student’s choosing.
In her spare time, Mary likes to ride her bike, take walks, camp in the woods, play ping pong and work in her vegetable garden.
