WORDS TO DESCRIBE MY TEACHING STYLE
Focused
Supportive
Detail-oriented
Individualized to meet student's learning styles and needs

Kelly has several years of experience and training and uses a variety of repertoire to teach each student. While she uses certain repertoire for core teaching, she enjoys exploring other pieces and approaches, depending on the student’s needs and preferences. She also enjoys bringing her studio together at least twice a year for recitals that are partly renowned for the receptions following the performances! They are a fun way to gather and for students, parents, family, and friends to get to know each other while enjoying some very delicious treats!

Depending on the student's age and level, lessons usually start with some kind of warmup. This might be reviewing an old piece (review work) with a focus on whatever it was that we emphasized in the previous lesson to help build skill mastery and confidence. It might also include scales and/or etudes. Working on the piece(s) the student is learning or working on polishing would be next. Depending on where the student is with learning and polishing their current piece, focus is placed on building skill and artistry, and also starting a new piece, previewing a spot or two in the new piece or going over parts of the piece to help the student (and parent) understand the key points and expectations for the piece. To end the lesson, Kelly gives the student an opportunity to perform their piece all the way through without any interruptions or corrections.

In her spare time, Kelly likes to knit, garden, read and spend time with her cats. And sleep. ;-)
